Sleep Your Way To A Clear Mindset

The famous, Arianna Huffington, Founder of the Huffington Post, named one of the chapters in her book ‘Thrive’ Sleep your way to the top. In 2007 after collapsing from exhaustion while checking her emails, Huffington got the wake-up call so many of us need – rest is integral to our success both at home and at work.

And yet, so many of us struggle to get enough of it. If we’re not working late, we’re tossing and turning thinking about work. If we’re not over-socializing, we’re lying awake thinking about why we’ve over-scheduled and how tired we’re going to be because of it.

How can we switch off our minds and get the much-needed sleep that we deserve? Here are a few tips:

  • Don’t go to sleep if you’re not tired: We’re not always tired at the same time every night. Sometimes we might even we wired. If your mind still feels very alert when you get into bed, try doing something else. Take a hot bath, read your book, or listen to calm music. You might spend less time sleeping, but you will be more rested.

  • Make a to-do list: Tossing and turning is often the result of worrying about how much we have to get done the next day. Writing a to-do list before bed can be a helpful reminder that our load is manageable and not something that should keep us up.

  • Slow your breath to slow your mind: Sometimes 5 or 10 deep inhales and exhales is enough to slow down your heart rate, calm your mind, and send you off to sleep.

  • Remember that sleep is precious: It’s so easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed by how busy life can get and how many things we must do. Remember, sleep is the one time that no one expects anything of you. You don’t have to be anywhere, no one is waiting for your email or phone call. You don’t have to be dressed or take care of your children. You literally just have to lie there, comfortable and asleep. So, try to enjoy it!

People underestimate how important sleep is to their creativity, their leadership, and their peace of mind. A good night’s sleep can make all the difference to how well our day goes, how much we accomplish, how kind we are to others, and how good we feel in ourselves.

But for some of us, sleep can be a real challenge, and there’s something much bigger keeping us up at night. If that’s the case for you, book your free ‘wake up’ call, and let’s try to get to the bottom of it.
